Show Descriptions

Papi, Me and Cesar Chavez is Su Teatro’s most successful touring play to date. This beautiful play tells the story of the United Farm Workers march from Delano to Sacramento in 1966 to protest poor working conditions through the experiences of one young girl who encourages her family to join the struggle. The play features original music from the era, performed live, and audience interaction. Papi is suitable for all ages (K – 12). Short version: Aprox. 45 minutes, long version: Aprox. 1hour 15 minutes. $850 (negotiable).

Francisca y la Muerte is a short humorous play done in the Mexican carpa tradition. The carpas, or tent shows, were vaudeville style traveling performances that gained popularity during the Mexican Revolution. This bilingual play is great for Spanish-speaking or Spanish-learning students of all ages (K – 12) and includes audience interaction and a post performance discussion with actors. 35 minutes. $300+ (negotiable).

The Cancer Monologues is a humorous play designed to emphasize the importance of early detection in cancer prevention. This play is suitable for teenagers (grades 7 – 12) who may have a strong influence on their parents when it comes to healthcare issues. 35 minutes. $300+ (negotiable).

El Hijo de Cinturon is a humorous seatbelt safety awareness play that was created in collaboration with the Colorado Department of Transportation. Two Mexican luchadores (masked wrestlers) take their opposing views on car safety into the ring. The action packed sequences that follow appeal especially to teenage audiences, who, according to sound statistics, are at the greatest risk of injury in auto accidents.

We also provide a theater arts workshop, which introduce students of all ages (K – 12) to the Chicano aesthetic including teatro (theater) and corrido (ballads). 45 minutes. $75+ (negotiable).

Note

Su Teatro supplies all necessary props. A few extra chairs are useful. All three plays can be performed in a classroom; however, a larger space like an auditorium, gymnasium, or cafeteria is more optimal. All pricing is negotiable. We want to bring our programming to your school, and we will work with you to make it happen.

El Centro Su Teatro is committed to bringing these performances to Colorado schools, and we will work with your school to accommodate your budget and needs.
